This exquisite necklace is inspired from the colors and patterns of the butterfly that populate the Natural Park of Rhodes Island Greece - The Valley of the Butterflies.
In the western side of the island, approximately five kilometers south east of the village of
Theologos (or Tholos) lies the Valley of the Butterflies (Petaloudes). This is one of the most
Attractive destinations on the Island. During August, thousands of butterflies of the genus
Panaxia (species Quadripunctaria Poda) overwhelm the valley in order to reproduce.
During the rainy period, the Butterflies in the caterpillar stage remain in the Mediterranean
Thicket arbutus, myrtle and rush feeding on the foliage. As the end of the wet season
Approaches, towards the end of May, the final stage is concluded and the butterfly in all her
Perfection makes her appearance in the form recognizable to us all.
They move constantly towards areas of highest humidity always following the waterways, as the dry period progresses they finally arrive at the valley. Attracted by the resin in the storax trees, these delicate creatures flicker white, brown, black and red in flight. This is a lush green valley, with a small river running through it. The site is beautifully arranged, with little wooden bridges, stone steps and an uphill path which leads to the Monastery of the Virgin of Kalopetra.
The design of the Butterfly Wings Necklace is formed from two wings held together by a brown round Goldstone and by a big Agate - Sardonix faceted stone with waves of orange and red.
Each wing has in the middle area the black and white stripes that we see on the exterior wings of the Panaxia butterfly, made with white opalescent Moonstone square beads and black Goldstone.
